Fall Beauty Finds: First time tries and time-tested faves

A new season means new beginnings. For me, this meant trying new products that I’ve had my eye on all year. A lot of my friends have noticed a change in my look and keep asking what I use, so I had to share my favorites on the blog, for the culture. Here are the products that have my full my attention this fall:

Jaclyn Hill eyeshadow Palette x morphe

Although I’ve had it for less than a month, this palette already is showing some wear and tear. I’ve had my hands in it just about everyday. I keep finding myself drawn to the neutrals with look great on my skin (thanks for more than one shade of dark brown!) I picked it especially because I needed something with more color to give my options on the days when I’m feeling a little spicy. I never play with eyeshadow so I wanted something fun when my creative bug kicks in.

MAC Lip Liner in Chestnut

I was buying NYX dupes but I find that the other girls just do not compare. The color pay off on my lips with and without products is worth it the $18 to me. Love the shade range of the MAC lipliners as well, so I will be buying it in other colors.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in ‘Spice’

The best way to describe Estee Lauder’s Double Wear is a full-coverage foundation with a powdery finish. It’s different from my usual more satin look, but I love it on my skin because it is an exact match. I do find it that it can settle into my pores when I don’t moisturize well enough (I have normal to dry skin) but it looks amazing in photos and doesn’t clash with my other products. It’s great for when I have to go on camera and will last all day. I’ve been loyal to MAC foundations ever since I picked up my first brush, but I wanted to try something new.

Disclaimer: Because of the powdery finish, I try not to use too much powder to set my face or I find I can look ashy/dry and that’s no bueno. There’s a learning curve here, but with any makeup product, you have to figure out how to make it work for you.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

I usually would stick to L.A. Girl concealers but I wanted something with a bit more juice to it. It has a creamy application with a wonderfully smooth and slightly matte finish. No creasing, no problems.

Camille Rose Almond Jai Twisting Butter

I wear my 4c natural hair under protective styles but every week, I like to show her some TLC. After I wash and deep condition, I use this twisting butter in my moisturize and sealing routine. Leaves my hair super juicy until I re-moisturize 3-4 days later. Added bonus: it smells good enough to EAT. How could I not use it? I’m tempted to buy the whole product line once I run out of my other shampoos.

Laura Mercier Powder in Medium Deep

I wanted a setting powder that wasn’t going to make me look like Ashy Larry. This ended up being much darker than I expected, but it’s perfect for days when I just want to set my face without the drama of a bright undereye. It has a very fine consistency so it dusts off easily. Locks your makeup tight wherever you apply it. I love putting it on my eyelid to create a smooth base of my  eyeshadow.

Burt’s Bees Balm in Vanilla Bean

Cooler weather means you need a little extra protection for your lips. I like this balm because of the natural ingredients, its light scent, and it doesn’t feel greasy. I love a good lip color, but sometimes it's nice to keep things simple. This is a great balm to throw in my purse for on-the-go application when I need a touch up.

Honorable Mention: Rosehip Oil

I was looking for a remedy to my dry skin, especially dealing with this new matte Estee Lauder Foundation, and I stumbled upon this gem. This specific brand of rosehip oil is blended with sweet almond oil, which I already use as an oil cleanser. After I cleanse in the morning, I use 1-2 drops of it on my skin under my foundation and I find that it makes my skin appear more dewy. I also like to put it on as the last step in my nighttime skincare routine. I’m definitely keeping this in my collection.
